Dental crowns, also known as dental caps, are a versatile treatment used to restore teeth which have sustained significant damage or decay. These crowns are custom-made to fit perfectly over the entire visible portion of your tooth, restoring its appearance, shape and strength while also protecting it from any additional damage. Our Torrance dentist may recommend a dental crown to:
- Protect a tooth after a root canal treatment
- Anchor and attach a dental bridge
- Cover and complete a dental implant
- Improve the appearance of your teeth and smile
- Strengthen a fractured or weak tooth
- Support a tooth with a large filling and little remaining tooth structure
- Improve a misshapen tooth
Our Dental Crown Process
Traditional dental crowns require two appointments to complete. Here at Zama Dental, we use state-of-the-art CEREC technology to complete your crown in a single visit, saving your time and discomfort. CEREC is a type of CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) technology, which allows us to design, mill and place your crown in a matter of minutes.
The first step is a digital scan of your teeth, from which a digital impression is created. Using this impression, our dentist will design your crown and use the CEREC machine to mill it from a block of high-quality porcelain, giving you a naturally beautiful and durable restoration for your smile. Once your crown has been bonded in place, you can leave our office with a renewed smile.
